Biographies of Royston Writers’ Circle Members
Julie (Chair)
Julie is not published, not a poet and has no idea about adjectives but loves to write and loves to listen to others' writings. A sci-fi fangirl who grew up devouring Arthur C Clarke, Heinlein and Asimov and now reads more fantasy. Dreams of stars and far away worlds and writing a sci-fi trilogy!
David (Treasurer)
David tried to write for pleasure for most of his life but only found the time when he retired. “The Right to Write” by Julia Cameron gave him permission to write and the Royston Writers Circle gives him the opportunity and support to do so. The monthly meetings stretch his writing out of his comfort zone.
Chris (Secretary)
Chris is a hobby writer, and loves the excuse to sit down and let imagination take over. She has been known to dabble in poetry but generally writes fiction, particularly with a fantasy influence. The Circle meetings provide opportunity and inspiration. She finds it particularly fascinating to see how many, completely different, stories people come up with from one starting theme in the course of an evening.
Mike (Social Secretary)
Ali
Ali has had several pieces published since rediscovering her love of writing three years ago. She writes when her M.E allows but dreams of walking the Inca Trail one day. If she can’t be Empress of the World, then she’ll settle for publishing a book of her poems.

Gillian
Born into an army family, Gillian moved countless times. She always longed to have friends and to grow things. After years of scrappy schooling, she left home for ‘digs’ in London. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and emerged a qualified Teacher and Performer in piano, with a love of theatre and a talent for fusing the lighting board.
At 26, she married an accountant in an international company; a week later they were in Calcutta and six months on, they moved to a ‘company house’ in Bangkok! Over the next 16 years, they had 4 children and 19 more exhausting moves. Eventually they divorced.
Until they were independent, she supported the children by teaching piano in schools and at home, often 7 days a week. In the holidays, she wrote and sold articles and grew vegetables.
Now retired, she lives in a tiny house near her youngest daughter and her family. She still has a few piano students and helps out with the grandchildren. She is half way through her second book and --- at LAST--- SHE HAS FRIENDS AND A GARDEN!
